Chronic Foot Pain Can Be Severe

Chronic foot pain can be very hard to live with. Severe foot pain can be caused from so many different things. For this reason there is no one general diagnosis. It will vary with your symptoms.


If you are a runner and have chronic foot pain then there are probably ways to help relieve your pain. If your pain is really chronic then you may need to see a podiatrist about the problem and for treatment options.

Many times chronic foot pain is caused from wearing shoes that do not fit properly and make the feet or toes not fit well in the toe box. Women that wear high heeled shoes will cause the pressure to be put on the toes and after a long period of time will cause injury.

One condition that can lead to chronic foot pain is osteoarthritis. It can make the cartilage deteriorate. When it is damaged the bones will then rub together and cause severe foot pain. If this isn’t fixed then it can cause permanent damage. Issues that cause osteoarthritis are being obese, having a joint injury or just getting older.

Another cause of sever foot pain is a condition called gout. It is caused by too much uric acid in the joints and can make the feet hurt very badly. It is more common in men. It is also more common in people that have diabetes or are obese or have kidney problems.

Ingrown toenails can also cause chronic foot pain. This happens when the corners of the toenail grows into the toe’s skin. It will become painful and swollen. It happens a lot when wearing shoes that are tight and people who do not cut their toenails properly. Corns can also be painful. These happen from too much friction and can cause problems with the nerves on the foot.

A condition that you should see a specialist about is a March Fracture. These are stress fractures in the foot. It could mean a breakage to one of the metatarsal bones. There are 5 metatarsal bones in the foot. This can happened from exercising too much or jogging or doing high impact aerobics. Some people who have weak bones can break a metatarsal bones very easily and sometimes just by moving the foot the wrong way.

There are so many reasons that you could be experiencing chronic foot pain. Severe foot pain should be seen by your doctor especially if it lasts longer than a few weeks. Remember that when exercising you need to stretch and keep your body in shape. Eat healthy, keep your weight down and take proper care of your feet. Your doctor can give you more helpful tips to prevent future severe foot pain from happening.
